Snapped Rudder - Time for a new one

Was out sailing with a friend who had come over from the UK about a hour away from the marina the boat started going into a jive...  I yelled out "watch out your going to jive".... and came back the response "i have no steering captain".

After the Jive i dropped the main and jib as fast as i could.... and upon investigation found the only bit of the ruder left was what lives above the water.    Luckily with enough fuel to get home steering just of the outboard was quite possible..

So i have undertaken it to make up a new rudder, and if your going to do that you might as well do it better than original!  Which did not make use of directional fibreglass for strength, just chopped mat, and it used a wood core which with small leeks seems to of got wet and probably contributed to its eventual failure.  And was not really shaped to be much of a aerofoil (hydrofoil).

So i decided to build a rudder based on the NACA 0012 aerofoil profile.   From my reading this should no stall so easily when at large angles of attack and make the boat more manoeuvrable at low speeds this all sounded very good but i need to do a bit of work to make it... Then make it fit on the back of the boat.

The next few posts i will document make a new one!
